The stereotype in gaming is changing! For many years, the majority of people associate video games with adolescents, especially males. But the demographics are changing. With new games in multiple genres and new enhanced technology, modern gamers now include groups of both sexes. The major cause in the change of demographics has been the use of mobile phones. This year we will see a rise in gaming made up of more than 50% of women! More women engage in mobile gaming today than ever before. But also slowly increasing are the sales of consoles to female gamers… It’s no longer just a mans world.
A recent study by the ‘Nerd Stash” also shows that most men around the age of 30 are dropping out of gaming. For various reasons. Some of these are due to economic troubles. Men are getting married and having children, because gaming in NOT a cheap hobby the extra family costs are making men drop out. Another reason is that gaming may be taking a toll on relationships.
Never the less female gamers are on the rise, and teens also. Young male teens are getting more into gaming from around 11 to 20 years old the demographics have been increasing over the last 3 years.
Interestingly gamers over the age of 40 have been on the rise too. Maybe gaming is a nice way to unwind after a long day at work? Whatever the reason…keep on gaming!
