Here are the statistics for the gaming industry in 2019. Better than last year? Well, I guess you are going to have to read to find out.

2019 Games Market Statistics

Last year was a good year for gaming and the gaming community as there was so much happening and I'm sorry but I just have to add it in here but The Witcher series came out in the last couple of days of the year, ending it on a high. 

It's amazing to see over the years how gaming has slowly shifted in genres, devices, downloads, purchases and more. One thing is for sure, Mobile gaming keeps on climbing while Console and PC are slowly becoming the lesser choice. Statistics created by NewZoo predict that Mobile gaming is going to continue to climb over the years accounting for more than 50% of gaming compared to its rival devices. As technology becomes more advanced, going to stores to buy hard copies of games seems to be right in the early 2000s. Today you just hop onto the google/apple play store, PlayStation plus, Xbox live, steam and more to download the latest game you want to play. 

It is now the year 2020 and there is a lot in store for this decade, with the release of PlayStation 5 in the late-year, I'm sure Sonys sales will skyrocket as die-hard Sony fans have been waiting for this for many years. Whether the sales of Sonys PlayStation 5 will increase consoles growth to take over Mobile, well that's another story on its own but personally I believe Mobile is the new underdog. 

Some people would say, well how is Mobile the number 1 device for gaming? Just think about it for a second, does everyone have a Console or PC? Consoles and gaming PC's are not cheap and can put you back a pretty penny. While the majority of people have phones, most app games are free, don't take up much space and can be installed on most cellphones/tablets. Unlike Cellphones and tablets that are handheld devices that you take almost everywhere with you, you can't exactly lug around a Console and PC unless you are going to a friend's house to have a gaming or LAN party.

So let's break it down, here are the stats.

Global Games Market Per Region

This year in total, the global games market has grown by 9.6% since 2018. Asia and the Pacific still continue to dominate, accounting for 47% of the global games market and generated $72.2 Billion in 2019. There is only a 3% difference between North America and Europe, Middle East and Africa, as North America accounted for 26%, making $39.6 Billion and Europe, Middle East and Africa 23% making $34.7 Billion. Whilst Latin America only holds 4% globally and making $5,6 Billion.

Overall, $152.1 Billion was made in the Global Games Market in 2019!

Device and Segment Growth Rate

Mobile is absolutely kicking butt in the gaming industry as many people believe that Mobile gaming is not considered "Gaming". Well, statistics don't lie and mobile gaming keeps proving those wrong. A whopping 46% of games were mobile whereas Console was second with 30% and PC with 24%.

Mobile generated $68.2 Billion which is a 9.7% increase from 2018, 37% of that is smartphone games that made $54.7 Billion whereas Tablet games were only 9% making $13.4 Billion. Overall Console made $45.3 Billion which is a 7.3% increase from 2018. Unfortunately, a shocker for most PC lovers, It makes up the least device played on. Still an incredible amount of money, PC took home $35.3 Billion which sadly was only a 2.8% increase from 2018. Boxed and Downloaded PC games accounted for 21% of the PC percentage which generated $31.8 Billion and Browser PC games only 2% making $3.5 Billion.

Android Gaming Genres Based on Popularity 

Ever wonder what the most popular genres are in mobile games? Well, here they are in order.

Casual - 58.86%, Puzzle - 56.5%, Arcade - 50.08%, Action - 34.19%, Racing - 30.83%, Strategy - 15.65%, Card - 15.35%, Board - 14.95%, Adventure - 14.82%, Action & Adventure - 13.62%, Word - 13.61%, Simulation - 13.19%, Casino - 10.39%, Role Playing - 8.11%, Trivia - 7.84%, Brain Games - 7.39%, Educational - 5.38%, Pretend Play - 5.13%, Arcade and Action - 3.39%, Brain and Puzzle - 1.69%, Sports Games - 0.57%, Cards and Casino - 0.48%.

2019 has been a good year for gamiung but Im sure 2020 will be even better! Cant wait to see what exciting new things will happen this year in the gaming world and how it will imact the results for 2020. Have a Happy Gaming New Year everyone!
