Every time a new popular game gets released you have no hesitation whipping out your wallet to buy it. Even if it's expensive, you always try to tell yourself that you need this game in your life! Although it may put a dent in your pocket, have you ever thought how much it cost to actually to make the game? Well, it's a pretty penny and usually costs a couple million just to make the game and a couple of million for marketing. We've found the top 5 most expensive games, made so you better hold onto your chair because they are jaw droppers! 

1. Grand Theft Auto V

Developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto V was released on the 17th of September 2013. It is an action-adventure based game about 3 criminals that commit heists for government officials while roaming free in San Andreas. Grand Theft Auto V is the sequel to the previous 4 popular GTA games that originally started in 1997. A 6th GTA is rumored to be coming but there are many speculations, I guess only time will tell. The game is available on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. It cost $137 million US dollars to develop the game and $128 million US dollars for marketing...WOW! This bringing the total cost to make Grand Theft Auto V to $265 million dollars. 

2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released on the 10th of November 2009. It is a first-person shooter game that is about a special forces unit that tries to take down Vladimir Makarov to prevent a Russian invasion. There are many other Call of Duty sequels that is popular amongst gamers. The game is available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. It cost $50 million US dollars to develop the game and $200 million US dollars for the marketing. Overall it cost a whopping total of $250 million dollars.

3. Star Wars: The Old Republic

Developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts and Lucas Arts, Star Wars: The Old Republic was released on the 20th of December 2011. It is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that is based in the Star Wars universe as they try to get peace between the Galactic Republic and Sith Empire. With many Star Wars sequel, it is a popular game that has been around for years and definitely a favorite. The game is available on PC. Star Wars: The Old Republic cost a total of $200 million US dollars to make.

4. Destiny

Developed by Bungle and Published by Activision, Destiny was released on the 9th of September 2014. It is a multiplayer first-person shooting (fps) game where you play a guardian that protects the last safe city on earth. They do this by using a power called Light to destroy the different alien races that try to come and take over the last city. The game is available on PS3, PS4, Xbox360 and Xbox One. The exact figures for development and marketing are still unknown, but the total cost to make Destiny is $145 million dollars. 

5. Halo 2

Developed by Bungie and published by Microsoft Studios, Halo 2 was released on the 9th of November 2004. It is a first-person shooting (fps) game where you are the character Master Chief as well as the alien Arbiter in the 26th-century conflict between genocidal Covenant and the human United Nations Space Command. There are many other Halo sequels that are very popular. This game is available on Xbox, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows. It cost $40 million US dollars to develop the game and $80 million Us dollars on marketing, which makes a total amount of $120 million dollars spent making Halo 2.
